Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-op Members

Ben Tyler Ben Tyler became a member in 1988, after graduating from The Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding. He has built boats in Mississippi, Idaho, and spent time in the Bering Sea doing work for National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). He specializes in woodwork and interiors.
Ric Brenden Ric Brenden has been a welder and metalworker for over 30 years. He is highly skilled in all aspects of metal fabrication. Ric has the unique ability to create high-end finish work on beautiful yachts as well as welding complex structural components for working boats. He has been a member since 2000.
Suzie Barnes Suzie Barnes joined the Co-op in 2003 to handle the Co-op’s accounting and bookkeeping. With over 30 years of experience, she has managed finances for many types of institutions. Suzie accomplishes all operations necessary to keep the wheels turning.
Chris Brignoli Chris Brignoli became a member in 2003. He is well versed in the strong analytical thinking skills necessary for his specialty, designing and installing electrical systems. Chris holds ABYC certifications in both Marine Electronics and corrosion. He is also an accomplished sailor, with over 100,000 miles of offshore sailing.
Bene Hoffman Bene Hoffman is from Münster, Germany, where he learned the Boatbuilding trade. He traveled for 12 years as Chief Mate on the Rainbow Warrior Ship for Greenpeace International. Bene graduated from the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding and worked as a subcontractor before joining the Co-op in 2000. He specializes in woodworking.

Pete Rust Pete Rust graduated from the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding and spent ten years working as an independent shipwright before joining the Co-op in 2005. He specializes in structural and fine woodwork. Pete has been longline fishing in Alaska and Washington, and spent 4 years as First Mate on Neil Young’s Schooner; Ragland

Curtis Schloe Curtis Schloe joined the Co-op as a member in 1991. He specializes in engine and systems work. Currently, his work has phased into managing orders and inventory. An owner of sailboats his entire life, Curtis has traveled all over the southern waters of the Puget Sound and as far as the northern end of Vancouver Island.

Martin Mills Martin Mills graduated from the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding and worked as an independent shipwright for several years before becoming a member in 2002. His expertise includes woodworking and mechanical systems. Martin’s versatility and creative problem solving skills truly demonstrate a lifelong interest in boats. He has seine fished in Alaska and offshore sailed in Hawaii.

Dave Griswold Dave Griswold has been a member since 2000. He is highly specialized in woodwork and traditional yacht rigging. Dave has kept well connected to the maritime community through teaching workshops at the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding, volunteering his time with the Sea Scouts, and currently acting as Board President for the Port Townsend Maritime Trade Association.

Jim Lyons Jim Lyons is our only remaining founding member. In 1981, along with seven other shipwrights, Jim started the Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-op. His specialty is woodworking and project management. With over 40 years spent in Boat Haven, Jim has also worked on boats from Oregon to the outer edges of Alaska.

Chris Chase Chris Chase has been working as a shipwright in Boat Haven for 22 years and has also been commercial tuna fishing. He joined the Co-op in 2001 and his specialties include woodworking and project management. Chris particularly enjoys the customer relations part of his work at the Co-op, making sure that our clients have a good experience.

Jeff Galey Jeff Galey is the newest and youngest member of the Co-op. He became a member in 2010. Excelling in all areas, Jeff specializes primarily in woodworking and systems. Jeff has been offshore sailing, making sailboat deliveries to HI and commercial fishing off the West Coast.

Todd Lee Todd Lee is a fifth generation resident of the Olympic Peninsula who has spent 25 years in the Marine Trades working on boats from Oregon to Alaska. He understands everything there is to know about engines and was a highly sought after marine mechanic before joining the Co-op in 2007.
